In an effort to break the resistance movement, camp administrators brought in the Fair Play Committee leaders for interrogations, threatening to take them away from their families and ship them to the Segregation Center at Tule Lake. The JACL obliged by denouncing the movement in its house organ, the Pacific Citizen. The camp newspaper, the Heart Mountain Sentinel, owed its continued existence to the administration and was also staunchly pro-JACL. The War Department brought in the war hero, Ben Kuroki, to rally support and quash resistance. The government silenced James Omura by having him fired from the Rocky Shimpo. Then the arrests began.
