The father of Jim and Gene Akutsu was one of 103 Issei immigrants targeted by the FBI for arrest in Seattle on February 21, 1942. The U.S. Attorney for Western Washington signed warrants for their arrests. What made this sweep unexpected was that it came more than two months after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and swept up men targeted merely for being active in sports clubs or the small business groups.
