The day has arrived. It’s been a long journey, but it’s finally May 18, the publication date for We Hereby Refuse.

More than 1,100 books were shipped from the distributor by last Friday, Pre-orders are reportedly still working their way through the distribution chains at Bookshop.org and Amazon and may take a few more days to arrive in mailboxes.
Books will also be gradually arriving for sale across the nation at those local independent booksellers whose doors are open to customers, like the Elliott Bay Book Company in Seattle or the storefront of our publisher, Chin Music Press in the lower level of Pike Place Market.

The book feels good in the hand, a nice matte finish on the cover with fold-in French flaps and heavy cream-colored matte pages inside. Credit for the eye-popping book design goes to Dan D Shafter of Dandy Co. in Seattle.
The list changes hourly, but at the moment the book is hanging in as the #1 Best Seller on Amazon’s list of Teen & Young Adult History Comics. ahead of such titles as Fever Year: The Killer Flu of 1918 and Manga Messiah.
With the limited resources of an independent publisher, our promotion has mostly been through word-of-mouth and social media. If you enjoy the book, here are a few things you can do to help boost our visibility:
Write a review. Please post a reader review on sites like Amazon and Goodreads. According to those in the know, the data-driven nature of marketing means that the more reviews we have, the higher a book is ranked by online sellers, and the more it gets stocked by independent bookstores.
If you write for a print or online journal, contact the publisher at <[email protected]>.
Share your thoughts through social media. Tag us on Twitter @consciencedvd, Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn, and we’ll amplify your reactions.
Suggest the book to your library. If the book is not in the catalog of your local library, it may have an online form for suggesting a title for acquisition. The Seattle Public Library has selected We Hereby Refuse as a May Peak Pick, books in high demand that are put on display for check-out on a first-come, first-served basis.
Or go old school and just tell a friend.
